We beat this sloped, vaulted ceiling. We were tasked with adding a full-height bedroom in this San Diego remodel, and we rose up to the challenge! 

This kind of ceiling would normally preclude a full-height room addition, but who says we can't build out? Opting for a DORMER ADDITION means building out into the roof and partially raising it. 

What does that mean for this family? They not only get a new bedroom, but one that you can actually stand in! Thanks to our expert architectural design team, these homeowners got to see this dramatic renovation through our 3D images, long before construction ever started!

Don't immediately write off a small open-to-below space! There's just as much potential to be had here, especially when combined with an existing open loft! 

This family is finding themselves in need of a dedicated work space. Remote work is becoming more and more common these days, and we are finding that the need for an office is just as frequent as a need for a new bedroom. 

Thanks to our expert architectural design team, these homeowners got to see this dramatic high ceiling conversion rendered in 3D. This allows them to not only see what this remodel will look like, but also how it feels. 

So what are we going to do, exactly? There's two options:

✅ Option One: Convert the existing open loft into an enclosed office, and convert the open-to-below to a new open loft.

✅ Option Two: Retain the existing loft, and build the new enclosed office over the open-to-below space.

This is really up to the preference of the homeowners. At the end of the day, they will still be gaining functional square footage!

A small open-to-below over the entry isn't the first thing people think of regarding a high ceiling conversion. Most of our clients approach us with this - "I have an enormous open-to-below above my living room, and I'm thinking of adding a new bedroom there for the kids."

However, let's not immediately discount this empty space. For these homeowners, that area provides an answer for their need of a dedicated work environment. 

A big reason we do these design videos isn't just to showcase our ideas, but it is also to clearly demonstrate how these changes will affect the look and feel of their home. This is even more important when dealing with such a small space. 

The primary concern for this kind of mini-loft is how comfortable it will be to stand or sit in there. This video shows that there is just enough space for a person to comfortably conduct Zoom calls in - the primary reason for this office addition.

Turning empty high ceilings into new rooms - that is what the loft addition experts here at CALOFT live for. This home's high ceiling is about to transform into something much more functional! 

That vacant lot above is going to be converted into a new open loft. This new space will serve as a secondary media room for the family. Located near the bedrooms upstairs, it provides a convenient gathering point for the family to enjoy their time together. Keeping the existing windows really ties this whole new space together, as it provides a nice overview of the whole neighborhood.

Not all high ceiling conversions have to be massive upgrades in terms of space. Case in point - this Carlsbad, CA home! 

While this home has a vaulted open-to-below space above the living room, the family did not have their eyes set on converting that space. Instead, their attention turned towards the entry. 

When considering a bedroom expansion, building over the entryway isn't the most obvious solution. In this case, not only is it possible, but is the best compromise - they get to keep their high ceiling while also enjoying the fruits of an enlarged bedroom! 

Remodels like these really showcase why our videos are effective. It's one thing to explain these changes. It's another thing to show these changes from a top-down view via blueprints or floor plans.
