Rocking out with your family sounds like a good time, right? Having the neighbors complain about your family rocking out is a different story.

This high ceiling conversion aimed to address that, and went above and beyond! 

​That emptiness above the living room wasn't doing a whole lot for this family, so it only makes sense to build new rooms up there. The collaboration between TruPlans (design), CALOFT (construction), and the homeowner resulted in this magnificent remodel!

Room #1 - New Office

For some people, having a dedicated space for work or study is crucial to maintaining a work/life balance. It can be quite distracting working in the living room while the family shuffles in and out of the house. It is a small but functional space, with a closet as an added bonus! You might be wondering how an office might fare right next to the other new room, but we'll get to that!

Room #2 - Band Room

With a family of musicians, it is a no-brainer that they wanted to have a band room. There's nothing more wholesome than the whole family rocking out! However, with that comes the concern of noise. 

This is the secret - this isn't just any ordinary room that has been repurposed into a jam room. The walls are specially insulated within, ensuring that the raucous concert within doesn't escape. 
 
Our architectural design team didn't just take aesthetics and structure into account, but really listened to our clients' needs. We believe the results speak for themselves!

High Ceiling Conversion

This San Marcos home just got a major conversion!

The high ceiling served no purpose for these homeowners. They wanted more space, but moving is out of the question. Building outwards would have presented its own set of challenges.

That is when their attention turned towards their high ceiling space. If they didn't like the difficult lighting and acoustic issues a room with a high ceiling brings, why not just fill that space in? Better yet, why not make that space FUNCTIONAL?

And so we reached a conclusion. In collaboration with TruPlans, CALOFT, and the homeowners, the idea was to fit two new rooms in that space and really bring this remodel to life!

Room #1 - Open Loft Office

Needing a dedicated space for work is something that is becoming more of a common issue, with the frequency of remote work on the rise and all. Sometimes, even a little extra space makes a HUGE difference, aiding with keeping organized and focused. 

With that in mind, the first half of the open-to-below space was converted into a NEW OPEN LOFT OFFICE. Keeping this area open made the most sense. Since the second half of the high ceiling space was to be converted into a new room, closing their new office would have resulted in a very claustrophobic environment - not conducive for work in the slightest! In addition, that would require that the office space be larger, which would cause the new bedroom to shrink. Speaking of which...

Room #2 - New Bedroom

An issue we frequently come across is the prospect of a growing family. This is the demographic that our loft addition service benefits the most!

Building an open loft office really allowed for this NEW BEDROOM to breathe. As you can see, it is not a tiny room addition in the slightest. This new bedroom comes with a closet and has enough space for a dual-monitor computer setup!
