CALOFT specializes in high ceiling conversions - a unique type of home remodel that transforms unused overhead space into beautiful, functional living areas.
The friendly faces you'll see to the right aren't just company owners—they're the people who remain actively involved throughout your entire project. From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, the CALOFT founders work alongside their experienced construction team to ensure every detail meets the highest standards. Their hands-on approach is one of the reasons homeowners continue to trust CALOFT with their room additions. Every member of the crew is highly skilled in their craft, working together to complete each project with exceptional precision, quality workmanship, and impressive efficiency. And when we say efficient, we mean it. While many contractors may require six to eight weeks to complete a comparable loft or bedroom addition, CALOFT has spent more than two decades refining a specialized process that allows most high ceiling conversions to be completed in as little as two to three weeks. A faster timeline doesn't mean cutting corners, either. Your home is treated with the same care and respect we'd expect in our own. At the end of each workday, the project area is thoroughly cleaned, dust is kept to a minimum, and the rest of your home is left neat and organized so your daily routine experiences as little disruption as possible. The CALOFT team is proud to serve homeowners throughout the Fallbrook community. If you've been looking up at your unused high ceiling and imagining what it could become, we'd love to help bring that vision to life. A high ceiling conversion is one of the smartest ways to add livable square footage to your home without expanding upward or extending into your backyard. Many two-story homes are excellent candidates for this specialized remodel, particularly those with large open-to-below areas and flat ceilings. However, homes with vaulted ceilings can often be transformed as well, and we've completed countless successful projects in those spaces.
So, what kinds of rooms can be created from an unused high ceiling?
With more than 20 years of experience specializing in high ceiling conversions, we design every addition to blend naturally with the existing home. Through expert retrofitting, your new room will look and feel like it was always part of the original floor plan, and not an obvious afterthought or out-of-place addition. |

Fallbrook, CA
San Diego County High Ceiling Conversion This Fallbrook home is undergoing an exciting transformation! Like many homeowners, this family needed more living space but wasn't interested in moving. Expanding into the backyard would have meant a much larger renovation, so they started looking at the unused space they already had—their high ceiling. That open-to-below area wasn't contributing much to their everyday lifestyle. In fact, the tall ceiling came with some of the common drawbacks homeowners often experience, including challenging lighting, increased echo, and inefficient heating and cooling. Rather than leaving all of that vertical space unused, why not turn it into something the family could actually enjoy? Working together, the homeowners, TruPlans, and the CALOFT team developed a design that would maximize every square foot by creating two brand-new living spaces. Room #1 – Open Loft Office With remote and hybrid work becoming increasingly common, having a dedicated workspace has never been more valuable. Even a modest home office can make a tremendous difference by providing a quiet, organized environment for productivity. For this reason, the first portion of the high ceiling was transformed into an open loft office. Keeping the office open was an intentional design decision. Since the remaining space would become an enclosed bedroom, walling off the office as well would have made the upstairs feel much smaller and more confined. An open loft preserves the spacious atmosphere while also allowing the bedroom to remain comfortably sized. Room #2 – New Bedroom One of the most common reasons homeowners pursue a high ceiling conversion is to create additional bedrooms for a growing family, and this project is a perfect example. By choosing an open loft office instead of another enclosed room, the design allowed the new bedroom to feel exceptionally spacious. Complete with its own closet and enough room for a dual-monitor computer setup, this isn't just an extra bedroom -- it's a comfortable, functional space that will serve the family well for years to come. |
